Senior Finance Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Finance Manager to lead finance operations for a mission‑driven organization focused on accelerating the global energy transition. Based in Portugal and working fully remotely, you will own the end‑to‑end financial function, ensuring accuracy, transparency and strategic support for sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the finance function, managing accounting, bookkeeping, reconciliations and transaction tracking.
• Process invoices, expenses and payments while maintaining robust controls and compliance.
• Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing, reporting and internal financial tracking.
• Develop and maintain budgets, financial planning and forecasting across projects and departments.
• Manage cash flow, financial analysis, risk management and other strategic finance activities.
• Ensure compliance with German accounting and tax requirements in collaboration with external advisors.
• Oversee monthly payroll processes across internal entities and employer‑of‑record services.
• Collaborate with People, Administration, leadership teams and external vendors on finance‑related matters.
• Assist with audits, fundraising activities and financial documentation requests.
• Improve finance workflows, documentation standards and internal control processes to create scalable solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in finance, accounting, controlling or related financial management roles.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and proven ability to ensure compliance with local financial requirements.
• Demonstrated experience managing financial operations independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to handle confidential information.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Odoo or Datev.
• Advanced use of Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
