Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to shape the design and architecture of our core platform. You will work closely with the founding team in an early‑stage startup environment, delivering high‑impact features while maintaining strict security, performance, and uptime standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the core platform, from architecture to implementation.
• Create a robust, secure, and resilient data ingestion layer for diverse, high‑volume sources.
• Develop a performant scraping and parsing layer to capture and structure web and external data.
• Deliver customer‑facing REST APIs and clear developer documentation for a seamless self‑service experience.
• Shape engineering culture by setting high standards for quality, ownership, and collaboration.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices, reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with end‑to‑end production ownership.
• 3+ years of Python development (or willingness to work primarily in Python).
• Product‑engineering mindset: focus on solving real user problems, not just technical elegance.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast‑moving environment.

Required skills

• Python (primary language).
• Distributed systems fundamentals: async processing, queues, pub/sub, idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, failure design.
• Design of clean, versioned REST APIs.
• Relational database modeling with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including indexing, query performance, and schema evolution.
• Cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Web scraping at scale (anti‑bot techniques, proxy rotation, headless browsers) – a plus.
• Low‑level languages such as Rust, Go, or C++ for performance‑critical components – a plus.
• Stream processing frameworks (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Flink) – a plus.
