Senior Accounting Technician (Certified Accountant)

About the role
As a Certified Accountant you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and regulatory compliance of the bank’s accounting and tax processes. You will manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, support financial reporting and collaborate with Finance, Risk, Operations and external stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of financial control.
Key responsibilities
- Record accounting entries and process invoices with appropriate treatment.
- Perform ATM booking and other operational movements, ensuring completeness.
- Execute account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Manage and monitor the General Ledger and associated retail accounts.
- Prepare periodic financial reporting and management information.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and cost analysis.
- Maintain tax records, statutory declarations and ensure compliance with Portuguese tax legislation.
- Register, update and monitor tangible and intangible assets, supporting depreciation and amortisation calculations.
- Calculate and record minimum reserve requirements and process payroll‑related entries.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and information.
- Participate in monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities and ensure timely regulatory submissions.
Required profile
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all accounting tasks.
- Efficiently identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a regulated banking environment.
- Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset and adherence to high ethical and confidentiality standards.
Required skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with Business Intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with ERP systems.
- Knowledge of Portuguese accounting standards (SNC) and IFRS.
- Understanding of Portuguese tax legislation and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Awareness of banking regulations such as Basel III.
