SCADA System Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Rail Portugal is looking for a SCADA System Engineer to join its GTS business in Portugal. The engineer formalises specifications and engineering plans, coordinates subsystem development within the agreed architecture, acts as the technical interface for SCADA matters and supports the transition from design through to installation, testing and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Formalise specifications and engineering plans for the solution and assemble its elements to evaluate design, behaviour, interactions and performance.
• Demonstrate that the solution meets operational needs and is ready for production, testing, installation, operation and support.
• Plan and coordinate subsystem development within the agreed architecture and design constraints, and act as the project-wide technical interface for SCADA matters.
• Manage technical requirements within the domain and prepare and maintain technical documentation (requirements, design, configuration, installation and testing).
• Support design reviews with internal teams and customers, and define Operations & Maintenance activities.
• Perform IVVQ activities, including system configuration, verification, validation and FAT tests, and support onsite installation.
• Perform T&C activities, including system start-up, on-site configuration and acceptance testing, and support configuration control with the Configuration Manager.
• Prepare training documentation and give technical training when required, and contribute to continuous improvement and Lessons Learned.

Required profile

• Degree in Electronics Engineering, Control & Automation Engineering or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of previous experience in SCADA systems engineering.
• Fluency in English (mandatory); French preferred.
• Ability to read architectural and technical drawings.
• Availability to travel and stay abroad for extended periods.
• Preferred: experience in railway, transportation, industrial automation or infrastructure projects, and in system integration, testing and commissioning.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SCADA systems architecture, integration and configuration.
• Experience with engineering and design tools such as Visio.
• High competency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication and teamwork skills.
• An advantage: knowledge of network communications and industrial protocols.
