Mechanical Design Engineer – Robotics

About the role

Motion Robotics is expanding its engineering team in Portugal and is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for machinery design and mobile robotics. You will work side‑by‑side with mechanical, electronics and software engineers to bring autonomous mobile robots from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical assemblies and mechanisms for autonomous mobile robots using Onshape.
• Take projects from initial concept through CAD modeling, prototyping, in‑house testing, field testing and final production.
• Generate detailed mechanical drawings with GD&T standards and ensure manufacturability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet engineering, reliability and production goals.
• Continuously improve designs for performance, cost and ease of assembly.

Required profile

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing industrial equipment that has been manufactured.
• Proven ability to take a design from prototype to volume production.

Required skills

• SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools (Onshape preferred).
• Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical drawing interpretation.
• Experience with FEA analysis.
• Knowledge of CNC machining, sheet‑metal and laser‑cut fabrication.
• Familiarity with vacuum‑formed or injection‑molded plastic design.
• Understanding of Design Thinking, Agile methodologies, rapid prototyping, DFM and DFA principles.
