Line Technician

About the role

The Line Technician is responsible for maintaining and optimizing telecommunications distribution and trunk systems in the field. This role involves installing, repairing, and testing equipment such as amplifiers, power supplies, and fiber optic components while ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain system levels according to operating instructions and calculate amplifier output.
• Set, replace, and troubleshoot distribution and line extender amplifiers.
• Diagnose and replace power supplies and line amplifiers on site.
• Perform installations, repairs, and stabilization of network nodes daily.
• Conduct system tests including signal/noise, signal/hum, summation, sweep, and return loss measurements.
• Prepare work prints, job cost estimates, and bills of materials for aerial and underground projects.
• Manage contractors, monitor progress, and process invoices to ensure compliance with company specifications.
• Climb poles, ladders, towers and operate bucket trucks safely, lifting loads up to 150 lb.
• Drive company vehicles and maintain accurate vehicle inventory.

Required profile

• Ability to work at heights and lift heavy loads using appropriate safety equipment.
• Experience following the National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and OSHA regulations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in the field.
• Commitment to safety, customer‑first philosophy, and company code of conduct.

Required skills

• Volt‑Ohm Meter (VOM) and Digital Multimeter (DMM) operation.
• System sweep and bench sweep testing.
• Return loss bridge, spectrum analyzer, and waveform monitor usage.
• OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) operation.
• Fusion splicer proficiency.
• Power meter, light meter, and traffic meter handling.
• Bucket truck operation and aerial lift device usage.
• Installation and testing of power supplies, battery loads, and electronic nodes.
