Head of Compliance – SCF Branch (Portugal)

About the role

The Head of Compliance for the Santander Consumer Finance (SCF) branch in Portugal will lead all compliance and anti‑money‑laundering activities, ensuring the branch aligns with corporate strategy and complies with Portuguese and European regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor regulatory developments and advise senior management on compliance matters, including AML topics.
• Design, implement and maintain the branch’s compliance programme, policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Ensure adherence to European and local financial regulations such as GDPR, AMLD, Consumer Credit and related laws.
• Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, handling inquiries and maintaining strong relationships.
• Report compliance issues to senior management and oversee remediation actions.

Required profile

• Strategic leadership experience with deep legal expertise in compliance and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong understanding of Portuguese and European financial regulations.
• Proactive, responsible approach to risk management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and regulators.
