GenAI Engineer

About the role

AMGEN's Lisbon office is hiring a GenAI Engineer (Senior Associate Software Engineer) for its Applied AI practice, which builds AI productivity and custom GPT solutions. The role designs, develops, tests, deploys and supports secure, scalable GenAI solutions such as LLM-powered assistants, agents, Custom GPTs, RAG applications and APIs on approved enterprise platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Build LLM assistants, agents, Custom GPTs, RAG solutions and APIs on ChatGPT Enterprise and other approved platforms, with prompt strategies, embeddings, vector/hybrid retrieval, tool calling, workflow orchestration and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Develop integration layers and event-driven workflows using APIs, RPA, n8n and orchestration tools.
• Create reusable Python services, libraries and templates, and TypeScript, React or Next.js components when needed.
• Implement automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests, tracing and monitoring, and safeguards against prompt injection, data leakage and insecure tool execution.
• Apply secure integration patterns (OAuth, service identities, RBAC, secrets management, least privilege) and build CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments on AWS, containers or serverless.
• Troubleshoot defects, support incident resolution and maintain runbooks and handover materials.
• Work with product owners, architects, data engineers, DevOps, cybersecurity and responsible AI stakeholders in agile ceremonies, code reviews and technical design reviews.

Required profile

• Master's degree with 4+ years, or Bachelor's degree with 6+ years, in CS, IT, engineering, data science or a related field.
• 4+ years of professional experience in software development, application engineering, systems integration or system design.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying or supporting production GenAI applications, assistants, agents, Custom GPTs or RAG solutions.
• Ability to work in global, distributed cross-functional teams with agile or scaled agile methods.

Required skills

• Python, with experience on production applications, APIs and data services.
• Prompt and context design, embeddings, vector databases, retrieval pipelines, agent orchestration, guardrails and observability.
• AWS (Bedrock, Lambda, EKS/ECS, API Gateway, IAM, networking, monitoring) and secure RESTful or GraphQL integrations.
• Automated testing, Git, CI/CD, and TypeScript, React or Next.js.
• Working knowledge of SQL and databases.
• Preferred: OpenAI APIs, MCP, LangChain/LangGraph, n8n, Databricks, Power Automate, UiPath, Jira, Smartsheet, model evaluation and red teaming.
