Finance Manager & Controller

About the role

Carpathia, a mechanical engineering and precision manufacturing company in Porto, is seeking a Finance Manager & Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. The role works closely with the CEO, providing financial insight and supporting strategic decisions as the business expands.

Key responsibilities

• Support the CEO in reviewing spending and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Manage day‑to‑day accounting, including bookkeeping, month‑end close, and preparation of financial statements.
• Oversee banking relationships, cash management and foreign‑currency transactions.
• Handle payments and settlements with international suppliers and customers.
• Ensure tax compliance and manage payroll processes.
• Prepare financial reports for leadership and assist with funding or grant applications.
• Develop product costing, evaluate equipment purchases and other capital investments.
• Create budgets, forecasts and regular financial performance reports.
• Establish robust financial controls and ready the company for external audits.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in accounting, finance or controller roles.
• Experience working across multiple countries with foreign‑currency and cross‑border payments.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) preferred.
• Strong knowledge of banking, taxation and payroll, with ability to advise senior leadership.
• Professional proficiency in Portuguese and English.
• High integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
