Design Engineer (UI & Front‑end Development)

About the role

As a Design Engineer at Ashby you will blend high‑quality UI/UX design with production‑ready front‑end code. You will work directly with the VP of Engineering and the CEO, shaping features that reach over 100,000 weekly active users and major customers such as Notion, Shopify and Snowflake.

Key responsibilities

• Redesign the mobile web app by interviewing users, wireframing new flows, and turning those designs into a functional product using the company’s design system.
• Build flexible, composable components for the in‑house design system that enable other engineers to create consistent, beautiful interfaces quickly.
• Collaborate with product engineers to improve information hierarchy and scannability of candidate assessment views.
• Expand and enhance Ashby’s design system, ensuring it scales with new product features.
• Consult on bespoke design work required by product teams, bridging design intent and technical implementation.

Required profile

• Strong passion for both visual design and front‑end engineering.
• Ability to communicate with customers, product managers and engineers to iterate on solutions.
• Comfortable working on a product used at scale and iterating quickly based on feedback.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative, and eager to champion the design‑engineering discipline.
