Design Engineer

About the role
Pixelmatters is looking for an autonomous, curious Design Engineer who bridges design and engineering to create high‑quality digital products. You will turn design mockups into interactive, performant websites, using reusable components and modern front‑end technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain websites as systems of reusable blocks using React and Next.js.
- Translate design specifications into interactions, micro‑interactions and animations.
- Set up and configure Content Management Systems (Payload CMS or WordPress) and manage content migrations.
- Ensure each launch meets performance, accessibility, SEO and security standards.
- Collaborate closely with designers and use agentic AI tools to accelerate repetitive tasks.
- Maintain version control with Git and contribute to the overall technical direction.
Required profile
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Front‑End or Design Engineer.
- Strong grasp of semantic HTML, modern CSS and SEO fundamentals.
- Proficiency in React and Next.js, building reusable component systems.
- Experience implementing interactions, animations and micro‑interactions.
- Hands‑on experience with CMS platforms such as Payload CMS or WordPress.
- Fluent use of agentic AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) in daily workflow.
- Ability to deliver high‑performance, accessible, cross‑browser solutions.
- Comfortable communicating in English and Portuguese.
