Customs Clearance Assistant

About the role

The Customs Clearance Assistant supports the smooth import and export of goods by managing documentation, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and coordinating with internal teams and authorities. This role requires strong attention to detail, bilingual communication skills, and the ability to work flexible day or night shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and verify the relevance of customs documents and classify goods according to the appropriate customs codes.
• Determine the correct customs regime, calculate duties and taxes, and prepare transit and declaration documents.
• Enter customs declarations into the IT system, print and distribute copies to relevant departments and authorities.
• Monitor clearance processes, handle documentary or physical inspections, and communicate status updates to stakeholders.
• Apply internal procedures, record issues, and support corrective and preventive actions in line with ISO 14001 and quality management standards.
• Assist teams in formulating non‑conformities and preventive actions.

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of customs clearance procedures, customs law, tax procedures and general legal requirements.
• Understanding of origin rules, valuation, tariff classification and Incoterms.
• Familiarity with air, sea, road and multimodal transport techniques.
• Operational proficiency in English and French, with French fluency mandatory.
• Availability to work day and night shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Conex and customs encyclopedias.
• Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and standard email tools.
• Experience using operational and commercial management software.
