Chair of the Department of Psychiatry

About the role

The Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine seeks a visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, beginning September 2026. This senior academic role will guide education, clinical service, research, and community engagement within the department.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Dean of Medicine on academic and clinical matters.
• Develop and execute a strategic plan aligned with institutional priorities.
• Manage the departmental budget and oversee resource allocation.
• Lead curriculum development for psychiatry and behavioral sciences across undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Maintain high‑quality clinical training sites and ensure accreditation compliance.
• Participate in executive committees and institutional decision‑making.
• Foster community partnerships and promote research initiatives.

Required profile

• MD with specialty training in Psychiatry and at least three years of post‑training clinical experience.
• Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
• Minimum three years of experience in academic medicine, including teaching and/or graduate medical education.
• Current faculty appointment at an accredited institution or eligibility for appropriate rank.
• Demonstrated leadership, community engagement, and ongoing professional development.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• Commitment to the mission and values of PHSU School of Medicine.
