Backend Java Developer

About the role

Vodafone is seeking a skilled Backend Java Developer to join its software development team. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high‑performance backend services that power our global connectivity solutions. This role offers the chance to work in an agile environment on cutting‑edge technologies while contributing to a sustainable and inclusive future.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise scalable backend applications using Java and Spring technologies.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs, ensuring high responsiveness and reliability.
• Implement micro‑services architectures and integrate with relational (PostgreSQL) and non‑relational (MongoDB) databases.
• Write clean, testable code and develop unit and integration tests (JUnit, Mockito).
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, and SonarQube.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in an Agile/Scrum setting to deliver features on schedule.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong core Java knowledge and experience with the Spring ecosystem (Spring Core, Spring Boot).
• Familiarity with REST API design, JSON, XML, Maven and version control (Git).
• Experience building Spring‑based micro‑services and applying design patterns.
• Proficiency in writing automated tests (JUnit, Mockito) and using CI/CD tools.
• Hands‑on experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Fluent English communication skills.
