1:1 Learning Support Assistant (Part-Time, 20 Hours Per Week)

About the role

St. Peter's International School, part of Inspired Education, is looking for a compassionate, proactive and organised 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to give individualised academic and social support to two high-functioning Grade 8 students with Special Educational Needs. The post is part-time (20 hours per week) and is taken on a freelance basis through green receipts (recibos verdes). The assistant works closely with the SENCO and classroom teachers to help students access the curriculum, develop executive functioning and social skills and meet their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals in mainstream classrooms. The main language of support is English, and the successful candidate should also be able to communicate in Mandarin Chinese when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support to two Grade 8 students during academic lessons.
• Break down instructions, clarify concepts, adapt learning materials and support organisation, executive functioning, note-taking and study skills.
• Encourage increasing independence while monitoring progress and giving feedback to teachers and the SENCO.
• Foster positive relationships that build confidence, engagement and wellbeing, and support self-regulation, self-advocacy and positive peer interaction.
• Recognise and respond to anxiety, frustration or sensory overload using agreed support strategies.
• Work with teachers, the SENCO and parents, attend IEP reviews and parent conferences, keep accurate records of progress and communicate with families in Mandarin Chinese when appropriate.

Required profile

• Experience working with students with high-functioning ASD and/or other special educational needs.
• Understanding of inclusive education and differentiated support strategies.
• Experience supporting students in mainstream secondary classrooms.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Fluency in English (required).
• Conversational or fluent Mandarin Chinese (preferred).
