Structural Engineer – Composite Materials (Porto)

About the role

Capgemini Engineering is seeking a Structural Engineer specialized in composite materials to lead the development of next‑generation wind turbine blades in Porto. You will work on innovative blade concepts, ensuring structural performance, manufacturability and service optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop advanced blade concepts focusing on architecture, structural performance and manufacturing feasibility.
• Assess structural integrity and perform conceptual and detailed design of large‑scale composite structures.
• Identify new opportunities for blade innovation and drive strategic development.
• Coordinate design tasks with project and global teams, ensuring alignment and timely delivery.
• Optimize blade designs for function, simplicity, cost and manufacturability.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in mechanical or structural engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing composite structures, preferably in the wind industry.
• Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing methods and aero‑structure elasticity.
• Understanding of plate and shell theory, cross‑sectional analysis of composite beams and general beam theory.

• Python programming.
• ANSYS for Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis.
• Finite Element Method (FEM) expertise.
• Composite testing at full, component and coupon levels.
