Senior Risk Analyst

About the role

The Senior Risk Analyst will join Popular’s second line of defense, strengthening the operational risk management framework. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will focus on Risk and Control Self‑Assessments (RCSA), translating complex risk data into actionable insights for senior leadership while fostering a proactive risk culture.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a second‑line advisor to business units, ensuring consistent implementation of operational risk practices.
• Lead enhancements to RCSA frameworks, aligning them with Basel, Federal Reserve, FDIC, OCC and NYDFS requirements.
• Conduct challenge sessions with senior stakeholders on risk assessments, control design and effectiveness.
• Translate control deficiencies into formal issues, develop root‑cause analyses and oversee remediation plans.
• Provide risk‑advice, escalation guidance and oversight of audit findings and regulatory recommendations.
• Design, implement and monitor operational risk Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and loss‑trend analyses.
• Deliver training on RCSA methodology, risk governance and control effectiveness.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in operational risk management within a financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of regulatory expectations (Fed, FDIC, Basel, OCC, NYDFS).
• Proven ability to communicate complex risk concepts to senior management.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
