Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Glanua is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design delivery across water, wastewater and process engineering projects in Ireland and the UK. Reporting to the Head of Mechanical Design and working closely with the Design Manager, you will drive design quality, safety and client satisfaction while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from site surveys through detailed design and tender pricing.
• Develop and review designs, calculations and specifications for pumping systems, pipework, tanks, process equipment and HVAC.
• Produce GA drawings, equipment schedules, P&IDs, procurement specs, hydraulic calculations and construction‑ready packages.
• Resolve technical issues and document engineering judgments.
• Coordinate design interfaces with Civil, Structural, EICA and Process disciplines and support BIM modelling (Plant 3D / Revit MEP).
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOP/safety studies and constructability workshops.
• Manage design delivery performance, change control and programme milestones.
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and manufacturers, and oversee third‑party design packages.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design for water, wastewater or related process industries.
• Ability to work autonomously and lead multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong communication skills for client and stakeholder interaction.
• Commitment to health & safety, design quality and continuous improvement.
