Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Lisbon office at WiZink Bank Portugal. The role will provide legal support across the bank, ensuring compliance with financial services regulations and acting as a trusted advisor to business units.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on banking activities, focusing on consumer lending products and services.
• Draft, review, negotiate and validate contracts, commercial agreements, outsourcing arrangements, SLAs, policies and other legal documentation.
• Support business teams with day‑to‑day legal matters and regulatory questions, delivering practical solutions.
• Manage legal disputes, customer claims, administrative proceedings and litigation, coordinating external counsel when needed.
• Review and approve marketing, advertising and customer communications for regulatory compliance.
• Monitor, analyse and communicate legal and regulatory developments affecting the bank and its products.
• Interact with regulatory authorities and prepare documentation for supervisory reviews and investigations.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks and provide recommendations aligned with the bank’s strategy and risk appetite.
• Prepare legal reports, presentations and updates for senior management and governance committees.
• Contribute to legal, compliance and business projects, ensuring legal requirements are embedded throughout implementation.

Required profile

• Law degree (LLB) or Master’s in Law.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience in banking, financial services, international law firms or other highly regulated industries.
• Strong understanding of consumer credit and consumer protection frameworks.
• Proven experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Fluency in English (Spanish is a plus).
