Security Control Engineer

About the role

Thought Machine is looking for a Security Control Engineer to join its Lisbon engineering hub. You will evaluate threats and risks, define control requirements, and design both technical and operational solutions that protect our cloud‑native and on‑premise banking platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Assess security threats, vulnerabilities and regulatory requirements across distributed environments.
• Design, engineer, document and present security controls that meet contractual and certification obligations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and client auditors to balance trade‑offs and ensure continuous improvement.
• Maintain and evolve Thought Machine’s security standards, risk assessments and business continuity programs.

Required profile

• Strong technical background with experience in security engineering for cloud‑based and on‑premise systems.
• Proven ability to reason about complex security problems and communicate solutions to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience evaluating threats, risks and control requirements in a regulated environment.
