Process Control Lead Engineer

About the role

The Process Control Lead Engineer will deliver reliable, cost‑effective and safe engineering solutions for SBM Offshore’s offshore assets. The role focuses on analysing real‑time controller data, identifying performance gaps and driving improvements across the fleet while supporting the design and commissioning of new process control schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse real‑time process controller data from offshore assets to identify gaps and recommend control strategies.
• Measure controller performance fleet‑wide using statistical monitoring tools and address “bad actor” controllers.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for control system issues both remotely and during offshore visits.
• Collaborate with offshore operations, maintenance and process engineering teams to implement best practices and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Provide guidance and training to offshore personnel on control system operation and troubleshooting.
• Review new FPSO process control schemes, offering feedback to ensure operability, safety and compliance.
• Support development of real‑time process simulation models for training, troubleshooting and production optimisation.
• Supervise specialised vendors where appropriate and capture lessons learned for knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Engineer diploma in a relevant discipline.
• 10‑15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including offshore/onshore upstream process facilities start‑up and control system commissioning.
• Proven experience in process and process‑control troubleshooting in an oil production environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with DCS, PLC and ICSS systems (Siemens PCS7 is a plus).
• Knowledge of APC (MPC/DMC), PID tuning and process optimisation techniques.
• Familiarity with advanced control methods such as multivariable and nonlinear control.
• Experience using statistical monitoring tools for KPI tracking.
• Ability to develop and use real‑time process simulation models.
