Principal Mechanical Engineer – Data Centre Projects

About the role

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer based in Lisbon, you will lead the design of mechanical systems for cutting‑edge data centre and mission‑critical facilities across Europe. You will be involved from concept through construction support and commissioning, ensuring resilience, efficiency and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Define and direct mechanical design strategies for large‑scale data centre projects.
• Develop innovative cooling, sustainability and energy‑efficiency solutions.
• Produce detailed calculations, thermal models and equipment selections.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors and consultants.
• Support construction, testing and commissioning activities.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Extensive experience delivering mechanical building‑services design for data centres or similarly complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, cooling technologies and critical mechanical infrastructure.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, IES, Hevacomp and BIM environments.
• Understanding of Irish, European and international engineering standards.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards accreditation.
