Principal Engineer - Cybersecurity R&D

About the role

HPE is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead cybersecurity research and development within the Junos R&D organization. The role combines technical leadership, hands‑on engineering, and mentorship to advance secure networking products.

Key responsibilities

• Support security certifications such as NIST FIPS 140, Common Criteria and the EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act.
• Drive development of product security capabilities, including gap analysis, threat modelling, static and dynamic code analysis, penetration testing, hardware assessments and AI‑enhanced vulnerability management.
• Identify and evaluate emerging cybersecurity technologies, shape the security roadmap and lead its execution.
• Influence decisions of executives, engineering managers, platform teams and customers using deep domain expertise.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less‑experienced staff and champion excellence in security design.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field.
• Typically 10 + years of relevant experience.

Required skills

• C programming language (preferred).
• Python programming.
• Rust (bonus).
• Networking security protocols: TLS, SSH, IPsec.
• Cryptography.
• AI systems for vulnerability discovery and management.
• Experience with security certification processes (FIPS 140, Common Criteria, EUCRA).
