Primary School Academic Support (Ages 5‑11)

About the role

Join King’s College School, Cascais, a modern campus delivering the British National Curriculum to an international community. As a Primary School Academic Support professional you will work closely with teachers to provide targeted assistance to pupils aged 5‑11, fostering a love of learning and helping each child achieve their full potential.

Key responsibilities

• Assist class teachers in delivering high‑quality lessons and ensure all students are engaged.
• Lead small‑group or one‑to‑one sessions focusing on literacy, phonics and numeracy.
• Support the bilingual stream, helping students transition between English and Portuguese instruction.
• Prepare creative teaching resources and maintain a stimulating classroom environment.
• Monitor students’ social and emotional wellbeing, acting as a mentor during breaks, lunchtimes and excursions.
• Collaborate with teachers to track progress, record observations and provide feedback for differentiated instruction.

Required profile

• Near‑native or professional fluency in English; Portuguese proficiency highly valued.
• A degree in Education, Psychology or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience working with primary‑aged children, ideally in an international or British curriculum setting.
• Proactive, patient and able to thrive in a fast‑paced multicultural environment.
• Strong commitment to child protection and safeguarding standards.

Required skills

• Literacy, phonics and numeracy intervention techniques.
• Experience supporting bilingual (English‑Portuguese) instruction.
• Ability to prepare engaging teaching materials.
