Personal Financial Counselor (Fort Buchanan, PR)

About the role

The Personal Financial Counselor provides comprehensive financial education and counseling to service members and their families at Fort Buchanan. The role blends one‑on‑one guidance, group workshops, and virtual support to help military personnel manage finances throughout their career lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families.
• Assist service members in creating spending plans for extended absences and other life events.
• Develop and distribute informational financial materials.
• Coordinate, publicize, and conduct a variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops covering topics such as arrival at a new duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and career milestones.
• Provide age‑appropriate seminars and respond to specific training requests.
• Utilize virtual counseling platforms, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and teleconferencing as needed.
• Manage “duty to warn” situations in accordance with DoD protocols.
• Communicate regularly with installation leadership, share trend information, and participate in supervision and quality‑improvement activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required (or associate degree + 4 years experience, or high school diploma + 6 years experience).
• Minimum 3 years of financial counseling experience.
• U.S. citizen with fluent English; bilingual English/Spanish may be required by contract.
• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation and pass required disclosures.
