Patient Collection Associate – San Juan, PR

About the role

The Patient Collection Associate supports daily financial collections for surgical patients, ensuring compliance with Puerto Rico legal requirements and HIPAA privacy standards. The role focuses on maximizing revenue, reducing delinquency, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily co‑payments and cash‑on‑delivery (COD) collections through POS terminals and provide payment confirmations to patients.
• Update patient information and payment status in Webops and the AX system, adhering to HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.
• Manage ARPAY applications, dispute resolution, and credit limit reviews for assigned accounts.
• Generate and send collection letters (phases 1‑3) and payment plan proposals.
• Prepare monthly credit notes related to co‑payments and COD cases.
• Investigate and resolve patient inquiries and disputes in coordination with other functional areas.
• Monitor delinquency and DSO metrics, applying effective collection strategies to meet company objectives.
• Handle high‑volume inbound calls, clarifying payment requirements and persuading patients to settle balances.

Required profile

• Experience in patient collections, medical billing, or related financial roles.
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and Puerto Rico healthcare payment procedures.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage confidential information.
• Detail‑oriented with the capacity to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
