Mechanical Design Engineer – Robotics

About the role

Motion Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop the mechanical systems of its autonomous mobile robots. The role involves collaborating with mechanical, electronics and software teams to take concepts through design, prototyping, testing and production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical assemblies and mechanisms for mobile robotic systems using Onshape and other 3D CAD tools.
• Lead projects from concept through CAD modeling, prototyping, in‑house testing, field testing and final production.
• Solve design challenges while improving performance, manufacturability and reliability.
• Create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings following GD&T standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure designs meet engineering and production goals.

Required profile

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years experience designing industrial equipment or mechanical systems that have been manufactured.
• Proven ability to design machines for production.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical drawing standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks, Onshape or similar 3D CAD tools.
• Experience with GD&T and creation of detailed mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge of FEA, CNC machining, sheet‑metal and laser‑cut fabrication (nice to have).
• Familiarity with vacuum‑formed or injection‑molded plastic design, Design Thinking, Agile methodologies, rapid prototyping, DFM and DFA principles.
