Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

CTS Group is expanding its Mechanical Engineering team in Portugal to design mission‑critical systems for large‑scale data centre projects. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will lead the development of mechanical and HVAC solutions from concept through delivery, ensuring compliance with international standards and client specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Size air‑conditioning, ventilation, pump, pipe, fan and duct systems for data centre environments.
• Perform thermal load calculations using IES, HAP or Trace.
• Create P&ID and PFD diagrams with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Select and specify specialist equipment such as chillers, fan coils, CRAHs and AHUs.
• Produce complete system designs and technical documentation based on project requirements.
• Verify designs against contracts, industry standards and local/international codes.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical, fire safety, structural and acoustic disciplines.
• Support the bid process with technical input and propose cost‑effective design improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3‑8 years of experience in HVAC design for industrial, office, clean‑room or data‑centre applications.
• Hands‑on experience with cooling technologies, air‑handling equipment and supporting piping, pumps and fans.
• Familiarity with data‑centre standards such as ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, TIA and EN50600.
• Advanced English proficiency and willingness to work on‑site in Lisbon or Porto.
