Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

About the role

PGI Engineering & Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in Building Services to join its growing team in Portugal. You will lead the design of critical mechanical systems for high‑profile projects, ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and compliance with local and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of HVAC, cooling, and fire protection systems for mission‑critical facilities.
• Collaborate with electrical and plumbing disciplines to deliver integrated MEP solutions.
• Perform calculations, simulations, and detailed engineering analyses to optimise system performance.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to meet project timelines and budgets.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with Portuguese and international regulations, standards, and codes.
• Conduct site inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting as required.

Required profile

• Registered member of Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portugal).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years on mission‑critical projects.
• Proven track record designing energy‑efficient, sustainable MEP systems for critical facilities.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Revit MEP.
• Experience with CFD simulation tools for thermal analysis.
