Junior Backend Software Engineer

About the role

Farfetch is seeking a motivated Junior Backend Software Engineer to join its Porto team. You will work in a relaxed, collaborative environment, building and improving services that power the checkout and payment experience for a global luxury‑fashion platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement new backend features that directly enhance the customer checkout and payment flow.
• Maintain and improve existing services, ensuring code quality, efficiency, and scalability.
• Stay up‑to‑date with backend technologies, software architecture principles, and design patterns.
• Participate in performance, resilience, and security reviews.
• Follow the full development lifecycle with a strong focus on software quality and Agile delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field.
• Passion for learning, sharing knowledge, and growing technical capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile, team‑oriented setting.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C# and object‑oriented programming.
• Familiarity with .NET ecosystem.
• Understanding of REST APIs and unit testing frameworks.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git or TFS.
• Basic knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to non‑relational databases or search engines (e.g., Cassandra).
• Basic understanding of messaging systems, particularly Kafka.
• Awareness of containerisation tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of caching solutions like Redis.
