German-Speaking Tour Guide (Shore Excursions)

About the role

Mystic Ocean, a new ocean cruise company based in Portugal offering cruises to the Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas, is looking for a German-speaking tour guide for its shore excursions department. The role covers recommending and selling tours, escorting guests ashore in every port and supporting the Shore Excursion Manager and the desk operations.

Key responsibilities

• Recommend and sell tour activities to guests and give suggestions for all ports of call.
• Escort guests on tours in every port, following the quality standards of the company.
• Answer guest questions about tours and ports courteously and professionally, and follow up until guests are satisfied.
• Assist the Shore Excursion Manager and Assistant Shore Excursion Manager in day-to-day operations, including greeting guests in the lounge, handing out booking forms and assisting during dispatch.
• Prepare and double-check tour information letters, flyers, tour order forms and turnaround materials.
• Help prepare disembarkation groups and attend onboard functions and social events as instructed.
• Support the Assistant Manager with escorting assignments and training, and ensure the Shorex Excursion Desk is manned as scheduled.
• Follow safety procedures, including safe lifting techniques, emergency duties and lifeboat drills.

Required profile

• Fluent written and spoken English and German.
• At least one year of experience in a similar shore-side or ship-based function.
• Good geographical knowledge of the world and the ports visited by Mystic Ocean.
• Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of people.
• Service-minded, outgoing and friendly personality, able to stay calm under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Very good administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task.
• Cost-consciousness and respect for company property.
