Environmental Operator

About the role

The Environmental Operator supports client sites in the life‑science industry by ensuring compliance with environmental and waste‑management regulations. Working under the direction of engineering staff, you will handle solid and liquid waste streams, operate equipment, and maintain accurate environmental records.

Key responsibilities

• Manage receipt, segregation, and recycling of solid waste (glass, paper, plastic, metals).
• Transfer liquid wastes from drums to storage tanks and operate related pump and control systems.
• Operate hand trucks, forklifts, diggers, pick‑up trucks and other waste‑management vehicles safely.
• Perform compaction and crushing of glass and plastic drums.
• Wash, rinse, label, and re‑package containers as required.
• Collect liquid waste and sludge samples for routine analysis and coordinate external laboratory testing.
• Maintain and update environmental data logs and submit information to technical staff.
• Ensure compliance with Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs and hazardous, non‑hazardous, bio‑hazard, and recycling waste programs.
• Coordinate shipments, track manifest data, and manage chain‑of‑custody documentation for local and federal agencies.
• Assist with regular site inspections and support the development of remediation devices.

Required profile

• Physical ability to perform demanding manual tasks and operate heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations related to waste handling and spill prevention.
• Attention to detail for accurate data entry and documentation.
• Ability to work independently on client sites and follow engineering guidance.
