Data Scientist – War Room Analytics (San Juan)

About the role

Optum is seeking a Data Scientist to strengthen its War Room analytics capability in San Juan, PR. The role focuses on building and operationalizing AI‑driven solutions that accelerate issue detection, deepen root‑cause insight, and deliver actionable intelligence to executive stakeholders during critical operational events.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement advanced analytics and AI solutions for War Room operational event management.
• Analyze operational signals, incident trends, and technology indicators to support faster issue detection and escalation awareness.
• Apply machine learning, natural language processing, and AI techniques for anomaly detection, signal classification, summarization, and insight generation.
• Partner with operations, business, analytics, data engineering, and technology teams to translate War Room needs into scalable analytical solutions.
• Document analytical approaches, assumptions, AI outputs, and operational insights in clear, consumable formats.
• Develop, test, and validate analytical models that support issue detection, root‑cause analysis, and executive visibility.
• Prepare, clean, explore, and transform structured and unstructured data from multiple operational sources.
• Use statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization to convert complex signals into actionable intelligence.
• Build reusable code, analytical workflows, model evaluation routines, and automation assets using Python and related libraries.
• Monitor model and workflow outputs to ensure continuous improvement and operational usefulness.

Required profile

• Solid technical execution across data, analytics, machine learning, and applied AI.
• Proven ability to develop analytical workflows and AI‑enabled insights for business and technology stakeholders.
• Experience converting complex operational signals into scalable, executive‑ready intelligence.
• Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams including operations, analytics, and engineering.
