Clinical Coding Supervisor

About the role

The Clinical Coding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the units that manage Comprehensive Health Risk Assessments, retrospective projects, and clinical coding processes. This role ensures compliance with operational guidelines, accrediting agency rules, and Medicare requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee CHRA post‑payment audit and second‑level coding audit, ensuring timely execution.
• Monitor referral processes, distribute tasks to appropriate units, and track completion.
• Review coding audit results, discuss findings with staff, and ensure corrective action plans are implemented.
• Identify risks such as data entry or coding errors, propose alternatives, and coordinate with IT for system improvements.
• Prepare and deliver statistical reports for the Scorecard and manage deleted indicator generation.
• Supervise, train, evaluate, and correct personnel to meet work plans and company policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field (or Associate degree with 60 credits in Health Information Management Technology).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in diagnostic coding, medical record review, and clinical information extraction; at least 1–2 years supervising staff.
• Preferred certification: CCA, CCS, or CCS‑P.
• Intermediate proficiency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, speaking).

Required skills

• Proficiency with ICD‑10‑CM, CPT‑4, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.
