Charge Nurse – Shift Leader

About the role

The Charge Nurse provides clinical leadership for a designated shift, ensuring safe, high‑quality patient care while coordinating the nursing team and supporting staff. This role balances direct patient care with oversight of workflow, staffing, and inter‑departmental communication.

Key responsibilities

• Direct patient care and supervise nursing activities throughout the shift.
• Schedule staff to maintain full coverage and optimal service delivery.
• Lead, guide, and train nursing and support staff, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Coordinate with other departments, case managers, and visitors to meet patients' physical, biopsychosocial, developmental, and cultural needs.
• Oversee quality‑assurance activities, compliance with operational standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely completion of required records.

Required profile

• Current RN license in the state where services are provided.
• BSN preferred; at least 6 months of RN experience required.
• Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or addiction‑recovery settings preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize patient safety and deliver empathetic customer service.

Required skills

• CPR certification.
• De‑escalation and restraint certification (training provided if needed).
• First‑aid certification (as required by state or facility).
