Backend PHP Developer – Permanent (French speaker)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend PHP Developer to join our brand‑new Technology Hub in Lisbon. You will work on a Claims Management System and other business applications for a leading insurance services group, collaborating with engineers in France and delivering high‑performance services to major insurers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop robust backend features using PHP 8.x and the Laravel framework.
• Build, document and maintain REST APIs consumed by front‑end applications and external partners.
• Design, optimise and maintain MySQL databases for performance and scalability.
• Develop asynchronous processes such as queues, jobs and scheduled tasks.
• Write and maintain automated tests with PHPUnit and Pest to ensure reliability and code coverage.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and promote best development practices.
• Monitor application performance, troubleshoot incidents and contribute to security and stability.

Required profile

• Strong experience with PHP 8.x and Laravel.
• Proven ability to design and implement REST APIs.
• Solid knowledge of MySQL and database optimisation.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (PHPUnit, Pest).
• Comfortable using Git for version control.
• Fluent French (required) and good English communication skills.
