Back End Developer – Sportsbook Web Applications

About the role

Celesta, a fast‑growing iGaming development company in Lisbon, is looking for a Back End Developer to lead the creation of sportsbook web applications. You will work closely with designers, QA and product teams to deliver fast, reliable and user‑friendly features for live betting and personalized dashboards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, maintainable backend solutions using PHP 8 and the latest Symfony framework.
• Develop, document and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Write high‑performance, secure code and apply best practices such as SOLID, KISS and ACID.
• Debug complex applications with tools like Xdebug and profilers.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define and ship new features.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to increase productivity while reviewing and validating generated code.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies, including AI‑driven development practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in PHP 8 and recent Symfony versions.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming, design patterns and coding principles (SOLID, KISS, ACID).
• Experience with debugging tools (Xdebug, profilers) and building reusable libraries.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted coding tools and the ability to critically assess their output.
