About the role

The Mental Health Assistant provides personal care services to patients in an admissions setting, ensuring safety and a supportive environment while working rotating shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living such as toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, hydration and changing linens.
• Conduct safety checks and maintain supervision intervals of 15 minutes or as required by individualized guidelines.
• Observe patient behavior, document clinical information, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
• Facilitate educational‑rehabilitative groups covering social skills, coping strategies, anger management and independent living.
• Obtain and record vital signs, height and weight as assigned.
• Engage patients in activities designed to achieve treatment goals and provide transportation or coordinate it with staff.
• Complete required documentation, incident reports and follow‑up paperwork.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months or more experience working with the specific patient population is preferred.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and maintain a professional, empathetic attitude.
• Commitment to patient safety as a top priority.

Required skills

• CPR certification.
• De‑escalation and restraint techniques certification.
• Basic first‑aid training (may be required by state or facility).
• Ability to measure and record vital signs.
