Android Developer - Remote (Portugal)

About the role

BJAK, the leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia, is expanding beyond insurance into spending, saving, investing, exchanging and travelling. It is looking for Android engineers to build the native Android experience for its AI Neobank app. The role suits someone who cares about clean user flows, fast performance, product quality and shipping reliable mobile features used by real customers. The position is remote, but candidates must be based in Portugal.

Key responsibilities

• Build and ship native Android features for onboarding, accounts, cards, payments, transfers, rewards and AI-assisted user journeys.
• Turn complex financial flows into simple, fast and reliable mobile experiences.
• Work with product, design, backend and AI engineers to take features from idea to production.
• Own app quality across performance, crash rate, loading states, edge cases and release stability.
• Use production feedback, analytics and customer behaviour to improve the app after launch.
• Integrate APIs, authentication, secure data handling and financial workflows with a focus on reliability.

Required profile

• Candidates must be based in Portugal; the role is remote.
• Strong English communication, as English is the main working language across global teams.
• Able to debug production issues and improve performance, reliability and app quality.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and moving fast in a startup environment.
• Experience shipping Android apps used by real users, and a personal highlight of having helped build, ship or scale a serious product, platform or system.

Required skills

• Strong native Android experience using Kotlin.
• Good understanding of Android architecture, Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow and modern Android development.
• Strong product sense and care for UX.
