Substation Engineer 3 – Grid

About the role

The Substation Engineer 3 will join a project team to lead detailed electrical design and project management for high‑voltage substation projects. You will be involved from concept through execution, troubleshooting engineering issues and preparing clear technical reports for clients.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in project conceptualization, work planning and execution for high‑voltage substations.
• Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve a variety of electrical engineering problems.
• Prepare technical reports and status updates that meet client requirements and S&L formats.
• Collaborate with designers to develop single‑line diagrams, grounding plans, protection and control schematics.
• Track project schedules, budgets and expenditures, and interface with clients.
• Share knowledge with peers through S&L’s Communities of Practice and adopt AI/automation tools to improve workflows.
• Travel to client sites as needed and work in a hybrid model (three days onsite, two days remote).

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical preferred, ABET‑accredited).
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing medium‑voltage power systems.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• U.S. work authorization (no sponsorship provided).

• Development of single‑line, relaying, metering and DC schematic diagrams.
• Creation of substation plans, sections and grounding plans.
• Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards and the National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI‑C2).
• AutoCAD.
