About the role

As part of Nokia’s Optical Architecture group, you will design and architect novel optical DWDM communication systems. The role involves creating software platforms and defining product architectures for packet‑optical telecommunications equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Line Management to define system concepts, features and customer use cases.
• Translate product requirements into detailed system and software architectural specifications.
• Work with a team of architects and software developers to establish and document SW architectural specifications.
• Participate in cross‑functional feature teams to build consensus on product architecture and technical concepts.
• Support software development teams during implementation and validation, ensuring alignment with the architecture.
• Document product architecture, requirements and concepts in clear, concise specifications.
• Investigate new feature requests and assess feasibility, working with documentation teams to produce customer‑facing material.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. + 3 years or M.Sc. + 6 years) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field.
• Strong foundational systems knowledge and ability to produce high‑quality architectural specifications for multi‑layer networking products.
• Experience defining fault, performance, configuration, and service‑provisioning requirements for L0/L1 layers.
• Excellent communication, presentation and cross‑cultural teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Optical networking technologies and standards (ROADM/WSS, OTN, Ethernet, SDN/GMPLS).
• Data‑modeling languages such as YANG, and frameworks like ONF TAPI, OpenROADM, OpenConfig.
• Familiarity with SONiC Optical Transport Network Working Group and OTAI.
• Programming in Python or Matlab and troubleshooting of link‑level control algorithms and optical performance monitoring.
