Backend Engineer

About the role

Air Apps is looking for a Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the server‑side components that power our utility and productivity apps. You will work remotely with product managers, front‑end developers, and other cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable, high‑performance services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and microservices.
• Collaborate on database schema design, query optimization, and data modeling for relational and NoSQL stores.
• Develop solutions that scale to millions of users, focusing on throughput, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Apply security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and encryption, and ensure compliance with data‑protection regulations.
• Write unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; participate in code reviews to uphold quality standards.
• Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting; troubleshoot production issues to maintain high availability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset with effective communication skills.
• Collaborative attitude and ability to work in a remote‑first environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Go, Python, or Ruby.
• Experience with frameworks like Spring Boot, Django, or Express.js.
• Knowledge of relational databases and NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Familiarity with building RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
