Principal Enterprise Architect

About the role

As a key member of Hiscox’s Architecture function, the Principal Enterprise Architect will lead architecture decisions and shape the roadmap and standards that drive the modernisation of the organisation. The role blends strategic oversight with hands‑on involvement, working closely with business and technology leaders to translate requirements into live, connected solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the Hiscox enterprise architecture strategy, creating actionable plans and measuring programme effectiveness.
• Specify technical standards and patterns that support a secure, scalable governance and operating model.
• Select technologies within a layered domain architecture to meet IT and business needs.
• Develop design standards, frameworks and processes that facilitate enterprise projects.
• Guide implementation teams on components, standards and patterns during design and implementation phases.
• Provide proactive support to programmes and projects, ensuring solution design aligns with the architectural roadmap.
• Assist in creating and implementing transition architectures, overseeing migration and delivery.
• Interpret business requirements into scalable solution specifications that align with the overall vision.
• Advise technical teams on performance, scalability, reliability, monitoring and operational concerns.

Required profile

• Extensive experience at an enterprise‑level architecture practice.
• Proven ability to govern design and delivery against architectural standards.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of influencing cross‑functional teams.
• Experience collaborating with business, technology leaders and end‑users to deliver solutions.
• Background in solution architecture is acceptable for candidates moving into enterprise architecture.
