Legal Counsel Specialist – Commercial Contracts

About the role

BYD Group is seeking a motivated Legal Counsel Specialist to join its Lisbon team. You will support the legal function by managing commercial contracts and providing day‑to‑day legal assistance to business units, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk in a fast‑growing, international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and manage commercial contracts such as procurement, distributor, supply and after‑sales service agreements.
• Assist business teams during public procurement procedures, preparing documentation and ensuring legal compliance.
• Provide practical legal support to stakeholders under senior counsel guidance.
• Identify and flag legal risks, escalating when necessary.
• Support the management of legal disputes, coordinating with external counsel.
• Monitor and implement legal compliance policies and procedures.
• Prepare internal guidelines, templates and legal training materials.
• Deliver clear legal summaries to aid decision‑making.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and maintain communication with the legal teams in the Netherlands and China.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law with knowledge of Portuguese law.
• Minimum 5 years of professional legal experience (in‑house or law firm).
• Interest or basic experience in commercial contracts and corporate law.
• Understanding of legal compliance principles is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken); Chinese knowledge is a plus.
