Transmission Planning Engineer – Remote (Puerto Rico)

About the role

We are looking for a senior Transmission Planning Engineer to lead complex power‑system studies for utility clients. The role is fully remote, supporting projects across North America’s major interconnections and helping utilities navigate renewable integration, load growth, and regulatory reforms.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead or study manager on transmission planning engagements, owning scope, schedule, quality, and client relationships.
• Perform steady‑state load flow and contingency analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, and PowerWorld.
• Conduct transient stability and dynamic simulation studies, including modeling of conventional generation and inverter‑based resources.
• Lead generation and large‑load interconnection impact studies across CAISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, WECC and other footprints.
• Develop long‑range transmission expansion plans evaluating load growth, generation retirement, and renewable build‑out.
• Support FERC Order 1920 proactive planning and Order 2023 interconnection reform compliance.
• Execute NERC reliability standards studies (TPL‑001, FAC‑001/002, TOP‑001, MOD series).
• Author and quality‑assure technical reports for regulatory filings and client deliverables.
• Design and implement Python‑based automation tools to improve study efficiency and model management.

Required profile

• Deep technical expertise in transmission planning and power‑system studies.
• Proven experience leading multi‑discipline studies from kickoff to final deliverable.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to communicate confidently with utility decision‑makers.
• Track record of mentoring junior engineers and delivering solution‑focused outcomes.

Required skills

• Steady‑state load flow and contingency analysis (PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld).
• Transient stability and dynamic simulation, including inverter‑based resource modeling.
• Interconnection impact analysis for large generation and load projects.
• Familiarity with CAISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, WECC interconnection processes.
• Understanding of FERC Order 1920 and Order 2023 requirements.
• Knowledge of NERC reliability standards (TPL‑001, FAC‑001/002, TOP‑001, MOD series).
• Python programming for automation and tooling.
• Technical report writing and quality assurance.
