Supervisor, Commissioning Training

About the role

The Supervisor, Commissioning Training leads the design, coordination, and delivery of technical training programs that prepare a field‑ready commissioning workforce for Protection, Automation, and Control (PAC) systems. The role ensures training consistency, compliance, and readiness across Testing & Commissioning operations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the central liaison between Testing & Commissioning leadership, Engineering, Operations, and Safety to identify training needs driven by new projects and technologies.
• Supervise instructors and training coordinators, assign training delivery priorities, conduct performance check‑ins, and coach skill development.
• Develop and maintain technical training curricula covering PAC fundamentals, high‑voltage substation apparatus, protection schemes, IEC‑61850, and SCADA/EMS workflows.
• Integrate laboratory‑based PAC training that mirrors real commissioning workflows, including relay scheme testing, schematic interpretation, and energization procedures.
• Oversee instruction in protective relay testing, Omicron‑based testing, IEC‑61850 GOOSE and Sampled Values validation, and use of IED Scout and StationScout tools.
• Maintain accurate records of participation, competency assessments, qualifications, and certifications; generate reports on training outcomes and readiness gaps.
• Manage training rooms, PAC labs, testing simulators, and coordinate external providers for advanced PAC training.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising technical instructors or training coordinators in an industrial or power‑systems environment.
• Strong understanding of PAC systems, substation equipment, and commissioning processes.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and resolve scheduling or instructional issues independently.

Required skills

• PAC fundamentals and high‑voltage substation apparatus (instrument transformers, circuit breakers, transformers, capacitor banks).
• Protective relay testing and protection logic across transmission assets.
• IEC‑61850 configuration, GOOSE, Sampled Values, MMS communications, network redundancy, PTP synchronization.
• Omicron testing platform.
• IED Scout and StationScout software.
• SCADA and EMS workflow testing, SOE verification, alarm handling, communications failover.
