Software Engineer – Backend & Distributed Systems

About the role

As a Software Engineer (L2) at Samba, you will join a collaborative engineering team in Porto to design, build, and maintain high‑performance backend services that power a global media intelligence platform. You will translate high‑level business requirements into scalable, low‑latency solutions that handle massive data volumes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and evolve core backend and middleware services for global traffic.
• Contribute to software architecture design alongside senior engineers.
• Write efficient code capable of processing large‑scale data streams.
• Implement performance‑critical, low‑latency components where every millisecond matters.
• Instrument, monitor, and log services in production, using signals to troubleshoot live issues.
• Build and support B2B integrations with partners worldwide.
• Participate in code reviews and champion clean‑code practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming and design patterns.
• Ability to work effectively in an agile, peer‑led environment.
