Software Architect / Solutions Architect

About the role

Air Apps, a Lisbon-founded company building an AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, is looking for a Software Architect / Solutions Architect. You will define and oversee the overall system architecture of the AI platform, working with engineering teams, product managers and stakeholders to build scalable, secure and high-performing solutions, and help shape the technology strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the overall architecture and system design for scalable, efficient software solutions.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams on architecture, coding and system scalability.
• Design and document high-level system diagrams, data flows and API structures.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks and cloud services, and set coding and architecture standards.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance and security, and oversee integrations including microservices, APIs and third-party services.
• Work with DevOps and SRE teams on deployment and operational reliability.
• Identify technical risks, conduct architecture reviews and performance audits, and support continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Around 6+ years of experience in software development and architecture.
• Strong expertise in system design, cloud computing and microservices architecture.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs between scalability, cost and complexity, and strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Backend technologies (Node.js, Python, Java.NET) and frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
• Databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching and data pipelines.
• Event-driven architectures, API design, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Security, identity management and encryption.
• DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
