Senior Substation Engineer – Grid Projects

About the role

The Senior Substation Engineer will join a project team focused on detailed electrical design and management of high‑voltage substation projects. You will be involved from concept through execution, supporting troubleshooting, reporting, and knowledge sharing across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project conceptualization, work planning, and execution for medium‑voltage power system designs.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide range of electrical engineering issues on substation projects.
• Prepare clear technical reports and status updates for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with designers to develop single‑line diagrams, grounding plans, protection and control schematics, and related documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 5+ years of experience designing medium‑voltage power systems and substation projects.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, track schedules and budgets, and communicate effectively with clients.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (read, speak, write).

Required skills

• Design of medium‑voltage power systems and high‑voltage substations (138 kV and above).
• Preparation of substation grounding, direct‑stroke shielding, and battery/charger sizing calculations.
• Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards and the National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI‑C2).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office applications.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
