Senior Software Engineer - REDAPL Graph Engine

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us take REDAPL, our Referential Data Platform, to the next level. REDAPL is Datadog's main platform for tracking customers' infrastructure resources and relationships, powering products such as Cloud Security Posture Management, Resource Catalog, and Cloud Cost Management.

Key responsibilities

• Build a query engine that supports efficient relationship traversals for demanding workloads.
• Design and drive high‑priority, high‑visibility projects to increase platform value, resilience, and scalability.
• Lead and guide engineers through architectural platform decisions.
• Identify system risks and reliability trends, designing solutions to mitigate them.
• Provide input on short‑ and long‑term engineering initiatives and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with product teams to understand requirements and plan for growth as they depend on REDAPL.

Required profile

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience with multiple types of data stores.
• Several years contributing to platform or infrastructure‑focused initiatives.
• Proven track record leading technical initiatives where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience are critical.
• Significant back‑end engineering experience building and operating distributed systems at high scale.

Required skills

• Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune or PuppyGraph.
• Production‑grade experience with Apache Iceberg.
• Knowledge of query planning and contribution to production‑grade query engines (e.g., Trino, Calcite, Substrait, DataFusion).
